Holidays Around the World

Last week we learned about eight different holidays celebrated around the world (Hanukkah, Las Posadas, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Kwanzaa, St. Lucia Day, Diwali, and Eid). At the end of the week, students chose one of the holidays to make a poster showing what they learned.  Check them out!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up for a time to meet on Tuesday, November 6th.  If you haven't signed up yet, please do so on Monday.  I'm looking forward to meeting with all of you!  Below is a photo of the sign-up form that was sent home October 29th.  

Week of October 8th

Reminder: Picture Day is tomorrow (October 9th).  Student do not have to wear SSA, but should dress nicely.

 

AZ Kelley is collecting Box Tops again this year!  Please help us earn money by cutting them off your products at home and sending them to school.

Jeans on Fridays

  

We finally reached our PTA membership goal!  Students can begin wearing blue jeans on Fridays this week.  An A.Z. Kelley shirt or SSA shirt must be worn with the jeans.  Thank you to all the families that joined PTA!

Football Fan Friday

Reminder: Tomorrow (Friday, September 14th) is Football Fan Friday.  Students can wear jeans with a football shirt!  Another option is that students can wear jeans with an SSA shirt in the color of their favorite football team.  For example, a blue SSA shirt for Titans or orange SSA shirt for Tennessee Vols.

Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to first grade!  We are going to have a great year filled with lots of learning and lots of fun!  Be sure to check this website often for updates, and I hope to see you at Parent Night on Tuesday, August 14th from 6-7 pm.

Contraction Surgery

We have been learning about contractions this week, and the kids had a blast doing contraction "surgery" yesterday!  They cut apart words and turned them into contractions by using band-aids as the apostrophes.  Check out the adorable photos below!

Learning is So Much Fun!

Last week the kids practiced making inferences by playing a Headbanz style game.  They had so much fun and kept asking to play it again!

 

 Dr. Seuss Week

Monday: Wear red & white SSA and a special  hat.

Tuesday: Wear silly socks with SSA.

Wednesday: Wear wacky SSA (mismatched, inside out, wild hair, etc.)

Thursday: Wear orange or yellow SSA.

Friday: Wear and A.Z. Kelley shirt or a shirt with words on it and blue jeans.

Reminders

Hey everyone!  It’s been awhile since I’ve posted on here, so I have several reminders.

• Please send a snack to school with your child every day.

•   Since we didn’t have school on Friday, book orders will be due Tuesday. Be sure to check out the $1 books!

•   Yearbooks are on sale for $20. If you’d like to order one, please send cash in an envelope labeled with your child’s name.

•   In the event we have another 2 hour delay, please be aware that breakfast will not be served at school. Your child will need to eat breakfast at home.
